*This DW Series is a Quality Comparison Tester.

Unlike a voltmeter, which measure voltage, or a resistance meter, which measures resistance, the Impulse Tester stores the attenuating waveform of a good quality coil in order to set a suitable range for test coils. By comparing the test coils against the stored waveform data, the coils with waveforms outside of the suitable range will be sorted as defective. The tester is designed so that defective coils will not be mixed in with the good quality coils, and to keep product quality variations within a certain level.

As with using a resistance meter to perform a coil test, the voltage is measured at each end of the test coil by fixing the amount of current passing through the coil. Thus, it is necessary to maintain to a high degree of accuracy the current passing trough the coil. However, layer shorts and one turn shorts, which the Impulse Tester detects, seldom depend on voltage. Most importantly, as it is a Quality Comparison Tester, the state in which the good quality coils were stored and the conditions at the time of examining the test coils should be the same.

On the screen of the DW series, the vertical axis measures voltage and the horizontal axis measures time. In addition to the accurate calibration, changes in the surroundings of a test coil will affect the accuracy of the voltage and time values and change the attenuating waveform.

As part of daily servicing, it is important to check that the waveform seen on the screen is the same as the stored master waveform before beginning testing. (This should also be done after an interruption, etc.) Moreover, even if you carry out daily servicing on a regular basis, please calibrate your tester at least once every several years at ECG or our designated facility.

Since we use parts that deteriorate minimally with age, which are carefully selected for voltage accuracy, time accuracy and circuit board quality for the DW series, you can use them in comfort.
