Coil tester
Impulse winding tester
FAQ
Q1. What is the Impulse test?
A1. | An Impulse test examines the state of a coil by applying pulses to the coil's ends. It can detect broken coils, short circuits, layer shorts, a broad range of inductance alterations, insulation failure, etc. |
Q2. Is the Impulse Tester a non-destructive tester?
A2. | The force heeded to burn out a coil will vary. In terms of voltage, the Impulse Tester applies almost the same voltage as an AC Hipot Tester. By applying short duration pulses, the energy is far less and does not damage the test coils. Conduct the pinhole test or a similar test in advance to make sure the coils have not deteriorated as a result of applying voltage on the kV order. |
Q3. What is the appropriate apply voltage for the Impulse Tester?
A3. | We cannot suggest exactly, but the corona discharge, seen on the display, would be an indication of the apply voltage. Normally, the corona discharge can be seen at the top of the rising edge of the waveform. If you see the corona discharge with the good coil, the apply voltage is too high for that coil. |
Q4. Can the Impulse Tester replace the Hipot Tester?
A4. | No, it cannot |
Q5. How should I choose the master coil from several good coils?
A5. | If there are 3 or 5 good coils, choose one and set the initial setting. Display the waveforms of every coil by pressing the start button. Make a visual check of each waveform, and you will be able to find your best coil. (Please refer to our manual for the initial setting.)
